Murphy's Tank: Six-Wheel Chassis

The six-wheel chassis I modeled for our ME 2500J gap-crossing vehicle: three wheel stations 185 mm apart on shafts, carried by the frame and legs. Explode it to see how it goes together.

This is the six-wheel chassis for the gap-crossing vehicle we built for ME 2500J at SJTU. Three wheel stations sit 185 mm apart along each side, each pair on its own shaft.

Use the explode slider to pull the parts apart, or pick a part in the bill of materials to isolate it. Picking a part on the model works too.

That 185 mm spacing turned out to be the problem. The gap was 200 mm, so when the middle wheels reached the near edge the front wheels were still 15 mm short of the far table, and the vehicle tipped forward into the gap every time. The version we ran in the end wrapped continuous treads around the wheels so it touches both tables during the crossing. The project page goes through the moment balance.
